Some of my buddies say I'm a slow learner. ![]() I know it's not cookie cutter, but after 30-35 years I figured the approach and timing out. Shot a lot of deer with that approach on my property. So these days it's more about the ease of entry, quiet, get set, and wait. The deer run really early and late until rut I used to go in with my vertical or gun locked and loaded and resdy, when I was younger, never did I have an opportunity. During rut, I may not go out in the mornings until the deer in the plots clear out. Even then, I wouldn't get a shot before I blew something off the plots. The mornings are different, I won't approach the mornings until rut. But before that I'd sneak down my access trails and never did see anything going in. I usually go in early in the afternoon, have cell cams to tell me. I guess I could switch and put my bow there and carry my sticks in but I'm afraid of bumping the scope with it behind me. I have my climbing sticks on the back of my pack. Is there a way to modify the sling locations to better support the crossbow? Is there a sling that can prevent this? Am I doing something wrong? Any tips on how to be more efficient carrying my bow into the woods would be appreciated. I tried carrying it stirrup side down and I can control it a little more but it doesn't feel right. The issue is that it's pretty top heavy and the bow wants to move around and fall off my shoulder (I'm carrying it stirrup side up). the positions where I attach my sling are on the buttstock and on the bottom directly under the string, which is about 2/3's down on the crossbow. I hook the sling on the crossbow properly I think. ![]() I have a Barnett Whitetail Hunter 2 and got a sling for it on amazon. Everything went smooth for the most part but my crossbow is really awkward to carry. I'm saddle hunting and trying to keep everything as light and mobile as possible.
